Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated 4 August 2026
yankd is a local utility. There is very little to misuse, but our merchant of record requires this to exist, and a couple of the rules are ours rather than theirs.
You may not
- Use yankd to capture clipboard contents from a machine you do not own or administer, or without the informed consent of the person using it.
- Deploy it as covert monitoring of employees or others. The Team tier exists for administered fleets with disclosed policy, not for surveillance.
- Redistribute modified builds that disable credential redaction while still calling them yankd.
- Use it in breach of applicable law, including data-protection law where clipboard contents include personal data.
Why the monitoring clause matters
A clipboard manager on somebody else’s machine is a keylogger with extra steps. The Team tier is designed so that policy is enforced and visible, and the audit log records metadata only, never clip contents — deliberately, so it cannot become a surveillance record.
